Canva owns Unscreen. Canva's help article states that as of June 29, 2026, Unscreen.com has closed, and that the team is focusing on Canva's own Video Background Remover. That sentence is the one already recorded on Sources from a September 8, 2026 retrieval of Canva's Unscreen help page. This page does not use a different shutdown date from anywhere else. Check Canva if you have leftover Unscreen files or license questions.

What to look for in any alternative
Background removal and alpha export are different steps. Many editors erase a backdrop and then download an H.264 MP4 with a new scene already filled in. That is useful for a social post. It is not a transparent overlay file.

Canva and other editors
Canva currently points Unscreen visitors to its video editor and typically describes downloading a high-quality MP4 after background removal. That is a composited deliverable. If an editor later offers an alpha export in your account, use it — then verify the file over a colored background before you call it transparent.
